Work packages

WP1

Image Analysis

The aim of this WP is to define the methods for VP recognition from the available satellite images and data. Such analysis will be computed over space and time in order not only to detect the most probable vegetation pattern of the considered geographical area, but to understand the correlation between images and other meaningful data (e.g., precipitation data, etc.)

WP2

Model definition, analysis and development

The aim of this WP is to define the VP models that can be used in the resilience analysis and response to climate change. In addition, the limitations of existing models will be analysed with reference to unrealistic assumptions of the models (example: rain and environmental variables constant). Moreover, both parabolic and hyperbolic reaction-transport models will be taken into account. Importance will be given to numerical schemes for the implementation of spatial transport processes within these models.

WP3

Setting, identification and calibration of model parameters

The aim of this WP is to design of algorithms for parameter identification tailored for vegetation pattern model. ODE/PDEs models are commonly used to model complex dynamic systems in applied sciences.

WP4

Ecological indicators of biodiversity decline and strategies for climate mitigation and adaptation

The aim of this WP is twofold: (i) to efficiently use the acquired know-how in terms of data, model and parameters to deduce suitable ecological indicators of biodiversity decline; (ii) to suggest strategies for climate mitigation and adaptation based on ecological interpretations of the outcomes of the mathematical models.

WP5

Dissemination, comunication and management

This transversal WP aims to raise the visibility and maximize the impact of the project by a set of tasks involving project partners, associated partners. The Dissemination and Communication Plan has the objectives to:

- grant visibility to the project at all levels;

- make project results available to interested people;

- increase awareness about the project outcomes;

- generate new knowledge.
